The 6-Minute Walk Test is a recently developed test to analyze aerobic capacity and endurance. It can be used to diagnose different conditions in people in every age group. It was initially used to assess the cardiopulmonary issues of a patient. Later, it started to be used for various other conditions.
The 6-Minute Walk Test can evaluate the functional capacity of an individual. It also provides information about physical activity, blood circulation, body metabolism, peripheral circulation, etc. It is used in the diagnosis of conditions like arthritis, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, etc.
The aim of this test is to make the patient walk back and forth as much as they can for 6 minutes. The patients are allowed to slow down and catch their breath if necessary because 6 minutes is a long time. They are allowed to lean against a wall if exhausted. But as soon as they are able, they should start walking again. Your cardiologist will record the observations and evaluate your status.
